Change is Coming…

This was the last blog post on warendergame.com before the Infinite Level website went live.
I've been promising a few updates to this place.

Let's get right to the point – this website is about to go and be replaced with a new, updated website. I've been talking about this for a long time now (looking back at earlier blogs, I've been mentioning this since 2018), and it's finally going to happen. How soon? I think we can see the updated website as soon as this month. I said back in January that the updated website would come with an info dump of a new game I've been working on. I'm really looking forward to showing off where this new game is at and go into much more detail about what players will be able to experience. But I'll save that for when we get there.
In the meantime, what's happening in the here and now? Well, my plan for the new website is already laid out, and I'm beginning to construct it now. As I've said in the past, this new website will act as a central hub for all my games. The website for War Ender has been great, but it no longer makes sense for me to have only this website when I have more games than War Ender. Plus, when this website is released, I can link individual games to these dev blogs, which will help retain a little focus. Now, all this said, I am not deleting the War Ender website right away. It will remain online for a little while longer after the new website is out.
As for this site's older content, I intend on importing much of this website over to the new one. I won't promise to keep everything, but I am going to try to retain as much as makes sense. In particular, I would like to keep the dev blogs that I've written over the past few years. They're nice little pieces of development history, not to mention a great way to remind myself of things I've said in the past. I'm certain I'll retain parts of the Media and About pages for reuse in War Ender's page on the new website as well. After all, I'm a big believer in reusing what you can. There may not be as many screenshots, but I'll retain some of the better ones for use as well as descriptions where applicable.
The two pages I expect to drop completely are the Demo and News pages. War Ender's Demo page is woefully out of date anyway, as it doesn't even mention the demo on Steam. And besides that, the new webpages for individual games will have links for demos where applicable anyway. As for News, that hasn't been updated since the release of Impressions, and before that the last update made was when I was at MO Game Con. The page was originally put together to make announcements of release dates and live events. But I don't do a whole lot of in-person demoing, especially given the current state of the real world, so it makes sense for that to go. Finally, while it's not completely disappearing, I am going to make some radical changes to the Contact page. I've looked at other developer's websites to get ideas for my own website, and I've learned that my Contact page is not at all how most people do it. You shouldn't do things just because everyone else is doing them, but I figure if these successful developers are doing something a certain way, there's a reason for it.
As for the promised info dump, you better believe I'll be promoting that hard. So, attentive followers are bound to see it. That said, just in case you need to know, you'll find this on the game's page on the main website. A gameplay video will be put on the new game's page, as well as a dev blog put together revealing the game's title and some details over what's inside the gameplay video If possible, I can also show off the gameplay video right there in the home page. Speaking of that game, everything is nearly ready to show off. I've been making adjustments to enemy behaviors and placements, the game's graphics, and settling on what area of the game will be shown. In my head, the video will be roughly ten to fifteen minutes long, so bring a snack and enjoy the showcase!
Frequency of dev blogs will not see any change. They'll still be rolling out on the first of each month. I'll reiterate this on the first dev blog of the new website as well. With a new game reveal on the way, expect to see more dev blogs devoted to that game. That said, I still plan on continuing the War Ender level design discussions I've been doing, and that RPG I'm making may get the occasional spotlight. And of course, any new games being worked on will likely be mentioned there before they get their own page. After all, I do like to show off works in progress before getting official with their reveals.
With that said, I'm going to wrap up this dev blog here. It's a bit shorter than what you may be used to, but there's much to be done in preparation of the new website coming. As I said, the new site should be ready sometime this month. And I'll certainly be talking about it when that happens. I recommend following me on Twitter or Facebook to know the exact moment the website goes live. But now, I must return to getting things ready for that big day.
Until next time!
